Students help Christmas Cheer Board

Not everyone is fortunate to have a full tummy and presents under the tree during Christmas. We can all can do a small part by either volunteering at a soup kitchen, donating non-perishable items, to the Christmas Cheer Board, Winnipeg Harvest or at a local food bank, donating to the Salvation Army Kettle Campaign or even taking an animal home for the holidays from one of the pet shelters. Argyle helps too! Each year 25 students attend an afternoon of hamper packing at the Christmas Cheer Board. This years date is December 12th. As well, we sponsor a family for a food hamper. We collect donations of food and make sure each child in the family who is twelve and under receives a toy. All the ingredients for a turkey dinner are included in this hamper. The hamper is delivered to the family during the last week of school and you will never see a happier or more grateful family! We are proud to do our part! Thank you everyone for your generosity!

Volunteer/Work Experience - - For Credit!
Did you know that you can volunteer, gain work experience and get high school credit for doing it? Or maybe you are undecided about which career path you should follow and are interested in job shadowing for a day. Some examples are; placements in administration, environment, retail, recreation and sports, special events and much more. MTS/Argyle Mentorship Program

Ten of our students can consider themselves lucky to be paired up with an MTS employee. These employees act as mentors for the students and provide social and academic support till graduation. They attend monthly meetings at MTS and also enjoy the company of each other at dinners, movies, hockey games, pool or where ever their fun takes them! The students participating in this program are; Katrina, Pam, Aynzley, Sam, Addy, Forest, Terence, Tyler, Ross and Gavin.

Cardboard Boat Race

Argyle Alternative High School students participated in a cardboard boat race on November 5, 2007. The event was sponsored by Skills Canada Manitoba, and was held at the 17th Wing Recreational Centre on Whytewold. The boat designed by the students did extremely well. It held the second most weight and placed second in the race (within 15 seconds of the winning team). Click here for slideshow.
